If you call yourself a foodie, you must visit the by lanes of India where the authentic food lies. The real taste of India is in street food. Throughout the entire length and width of the country, you can find several places that are famous for its food not just in India but across the globe. People flock to these places just for its mouth-watering food and lip-smacking dishes. Let’s explore the taste of India –
The Pink City with its beautiful Havelis(Forts) and bustling markets is a treat for your taste buds. The most famous street offering is the hot and spicy pyaaz ki kachori, which is available at most sweets and savory shops. Do not forget to visit LMB and savor the delicious Rajasthani Thali to get the most of Jaipur during your visit.
There is no end to delicious food in this city which is famous for its Paranthey Wali Gali (street famous for its fried Indian stuffed bread) on end and Khan Chacha’s kebabs on the other. Other famous delicacies are Dilli ki chaat, Chhole Bhature, Rajma Chawal, and sweets.
This place may not be on the top list of a foodie, but my personal experience says otherwise. It has the best kachori which is made from lentils and served with spicy hot curry made from gram flour and vinegar.
The combination is served best with hot sweet jalebis. Further down the city lies the holy city of Pushkar which is world-famous not only for the one and only Brahma Temple but also for its Malpuas (sweet pancakes dipped in sugar syrup). If you are fond of sweets you can also have the Kulfi Faluda.
Hyderabad is synonymous with Biryani. Dum Biryani is at its best in this city which is also famous for Haleem, Seekh kebabs and Mirchkasalan (chili curry!) will not fail the spice- lover’s tongue.
If you have a sweet tooth, head straight to Bengal which is famous for Rasogullas and Sandesh. The fiery jhaalmuri, puchkas that set your tongue on fire and the unforgettable taste of Hilsa (freshwater fish) cooked in mustard gravy; as well as the quick egg rolls wrapped in the tangy sauce: all these are Kolkata’s very own.
Want to have a royal affair with food? Lucknow is the place to be with the recipes being originally made for kings. Dig into a variety of kebabs, ranging from Kakori, Shami, Boti, Patili, Ghutwa, and Seekh. Dum style cooking and Awadhi cuisine: we owe it all to Lucknow.
Amchi Mumbai is the place to give a twist to your tongue with early morning Vada pav and masala cutting chai. Mumbai is a melting point of a mix of food habits: Irani, Chinese, Korean, and Continental. Street food is most popular in Mumbai, including Panipuri, Bhelpuri, and Dabeli and South Indian dishes.
Other places if interest for a foodie would be Goa to try the Goan Fish Curry, Kochi to taste the Appam, Putta and Chana with bananas, Pondicherry for its French connection and cuisine, Amritsar to try the soft and tasty Naan, Ahmedabad for vegetarians and Chennai for Dosa and Idli.
